Oil + Water
Typecast Publishing, 2010
After such an unnatural disaster as the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf Coast, many Americans sat watching birds enveloped by oil, tarballs, and a brown sea floating in flashes on their TV screens. In response, a small group of publishers and arts supporters—including Typecast Publishing, Holland Brown Books, and Tuesday: An Art Project—joined together with writers including Robert Pinsky, Joshua Clark, Elizabeth Bradfield, Tony Hoagland, and Matthea Harvey amongst others, to create Oil + Water, a literary and visual art project exploring the dependency and complex relationship we have with these two important resources. All profits from Oil + Water sales will go towards nonprofits in the New Orleans area working to restore the Gulf Coast to its natural state. |

Cold Flashes: Literary Snapshots of Alaska
University of Alaska Press, 2010
As the old adage goes, "if you can't say it in a few pages, you won't in a hundred." Found here are highly polished micro-narratives, both fiction and nonfiction, and a series of eloquent and artistic halftones that capture their sizeable subjects in a nutshell. By minimizing the exposition, the selections stimulate the imagination to reflect on the rich diversity of people and places that make up Alaska. |

New Poets of the American West
Many Voices Press, 2010
Collected here are poems about horse racing, mining, trash collecting, nuclear testing, border crossings, buffalo hunting, surfing, and sifting flour. We hear from Native Americans and first-generation immigrants, from ranchlanders and megaopolites. In fact, the West is so big, the deeper one reads in this anthology, the more voices and world views one encounters, the more textures of thought, emotion, and language one discovers, the less we may find ourselves able to speak of a single, stable something called the American West. —Brady Harrison, Professor University of Montana |

Best New Poets 2006
Meridian Press, 2006
It's a nervy thing for an anthology to label itself Best New Poets, but once again the collection lives up to its name. It's a rich and readable selection, reflecting no party-line aesthetic, and attesting to the formidable promise of the emerging generation. —David Wojahn, author of Spirit Cabinet |
